Tinubu Mourns Slain Soldiers, Hails Military’s Swift Response in Borno

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy for the military and the families of the six soldiers who lost their lives during a terrorist attack on January 4, 2025, at the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State. In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president acknowledged the sacrifice of the fallen soldiers and vowed that their heroism in defending the nation would always be remembered and honoured.

The president praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their rapid and effective counteraction in response to the assault. Tinubu lauded the military’s air component, which successfully neutralised many of the terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to flee. “This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” the president said.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to combating terrorism and banditry, Tinubu assured the military of unwavering support as they continue their efforts to safeguard the nation. “Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed,” he added, commending the forces for their resilience and determination to eliminate the threats posed by terrorists and bandits.

In light of the tragic event, President Tinubu called for a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. He stressed the importance of learning from this attack to prevent future occurrences, emphasising that the nation must remain vigilant in its security efforts.

The president also urged the military to intensify operations, especially in the Northwest, where banditry remains a significant threat to the safety and well-being of innocent citizens. He appealed to Nigerians, including the media, to rally behind the military’s efforts and support their ongoing mission to restore peace and stability to the country.
