The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of the late Professor Olu Akerejola, describing him as an exceptional son of the state whose death is a great loss to Kogi and the nation.

The Governor gave the message during the burial rites of Professor Akerejola at the Cathedral of St Peters, Ogori, in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area on Saturday.

Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo stated that Professor Akerejola was not only a respected academic but also a unifying figure and a patriotic Nigerian who dedicated his life to service, education, and community development. He noted that the late professor exemplified humility, hard work, and integrity throughout his life.

The Governor highlighted Professor Akerejola’s impactful leadership as the former Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), where his efforts empowered young Nigerians across the country. He added that the professor’s commitment to national development and human capital growth remains a lasting legacy for generations to come.

On behalf of the Government and people of Kogi State, the Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Ogori-Magongo community, and all loved ones. He prayed that God grants them comfort and the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

“Professor Olu Akerejola lived a life of impact and purpose. His service to humanity will remain evergreen in our hearts,” Governor Ododo said.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Member representing Ofu State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmodu Seidu; Special Advisers to the Governor on Environment and Commerce & Industry, Hon. Aboh Ibrahim and Hon. Adejoh Nicodemus; Hon. Gambo Haruna; the State NUT Assistant Accountant, Comrade Sule Uhiene, among others.

The ceremony also witnessed the presence of the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D.; the Director-General, Government House Administration, Dr. Oricha Shaibu; and the Chairman of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, Hon. Rosemary Ohiezu, alongside other state officials.
