The Kogi State Wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has inaugurated a new leadership team with Comrade Ayoola Abayomi as its new state chairman.
The inauguration which took place at the 8th Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of the union in Idah also saw the election of other members of the executive committee to pilot the affairs of the union in the state.
The event brought together education stakeholders, union leaders and government representatives to chart a renewed direction for teachers in the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, assured teachers of the administration’s commitment to deepening ongoing reforms in the education sector.
He noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remains intentional about strengthening the welfare, training and working condition of teachers in the state.
He described teachers as the foundation of societal development and pledged that the administration of Governor Ododo would continue to prioritize policies capable of enhancing teaching standards and improving learning outcomes for students.
On his part the new NUT State Chairman, Comrade Ayoola Abayomi, promised to lead with transparency and accountability.
He vowed to protect the rights of teachers and ensure their welfare remains the union’s top priority.
The outgoing chairman of NUT in the state, Comrade Yakubu Dauda, used the occasion to reflect on his accomplishments in office and expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for supporting the union throughout his tenure.
He urged the new executive to uphold the interest of teachers and sustain the progress achieved so far.
Keynote speaker at the event, Professor Lawrence Achimugu of Prince Abubakar Audu University, commended the Kogi state government for its responsiveness to teachers’ concerns.
