Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Ododo Extends Support to Families of Fallen Heroes

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, lauding their sacrifices as the foundation of the nation’s peace and unity. Speaking at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the World War Cenotaph in Lokoja, Governor Ododo described the event as a solemn occasion to honor the valor of the armed forces.

In a show of tangible support, Governor Ododo announced the immediate inclusion of widows and children of fallen heroes into the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring access to free healthcare services. He further pledged to provide continuous assistance to injured officers and veterans, emphasizing the need to uphold their dignity and sacrifices.

The Governor acknowledged the bravery and patriotism of Nigeria’s armed forces, noting their indispensable role in nation-building. He called for collective responsibility in fostering a society that validates the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price. “Unity and peace are the least we owe them,” he stated passionately.

Governor Ododo also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his renewed hope agenda, which prioritizes national peace and security. He noted that the federal government’s commitment serves as a guiding framework for states to enhance welfare programs for service members and their families.

The ceremony was marked by a traditional wreath-laying session, where dignitaries, including military commanders and traditional rulers, paid homage to the fallen heroes. Residents at the event expressed heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices of the armed forces and called for sustained support to their families and veterans.
