President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and associates of the former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emeritus Biodun Jeyifo, who passed away on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the late scholar as an “intellectual giant” whose work in postcolonial studies and African literature, particularly his definitive interpretations of Wole Soyinka’s body of work remains unparalleled.
President Tinubu highlighted Jeyifo’s strategic leadership of ASUU, noting that his “temperance, foresight, and wisdom” created essential frameworks for government negotiations.
Beyond the classroom, the President praised Jeyifo’s commitment to social justice and his mentorship of generations of writers and activists across institutions like Harvard, Cornell, and the University of Ibadan.
