Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has assured of a free, fair, credible, and transparent direct primary elections for aspirants seeking elective positions on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The Governor gave the assurance during a meeting with serving and aspiring members of the State House of Assembly at the Government House in Lokoja.
Governor Ododo reiterated his commitment to strengthening internal party democracy and deepening public confidence in the electoral process.
Governor Ododo also congratulated the aspirants for demonstrating interest in serving the people, describing their participation as a vital component of the democratic process.
He emphasized that the party remains committed to a transparent process, restating that there will be no imposition of candidates
He noted the APC will provide a level playing field for all aspirants to showcase their plans in line with development agenda and achievements of the party.
He urged the aspirants to intensify consultations with the people and key stakeholders, encouraging them to approach the race with an open mind and clearly defined objectives that reflect the needs and aspirations of the electorate.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Umar Aliyu who is also an aspirant, said the visit was to appreciate the Governor for his leadership and inclusive approach to party affairs, particularly among aspirants under the APC.
He noted that the emergence of aspirants followed extensive engagements with party leadership and a consensus-building process facilitated by the Governor, which he said has helped streamline the number of aspirants going into the primary elections.
The Speaker commended Governor Ododo for his vision, adding that the lawmakers, as loyal party members, deemed it necessary to formally present their nomination forms to him as a mark of respect and solidarity.
He also praised the Governor for broadening the scope of governance and bringing it closer to the grassroots, particularly through his efforts to actualise the restoration of additional state constituencies, which he said would further enhance representation and inclusive development across Kogi State.
