Kogi Government Sympathizes With Families of Felele Auto crash, Vows Improved Road Safety

The Kogi State Government has expressed its deepest condolences to the families affected by the recent tragic accident in Lokoja, which resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous severe injuries.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the state, particularly impacting the families of the victims and the community at the Federal University of Lokoja.

In a statement, the government described the day as one of sorrow, with the loss of lives causing irreparable pain to the affected families and the local population.

In response to the tragic event, the Kogi State Government emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps to prevent similar accidents in the future also stressed the need for a concerted effort from all stakeholders to ensure that roads, particularly those near educational institutions and densely populated areas, are safer for all road users.

While the incident has reignited conversations around the urgent need to implement safety measures that will safeguard the lives of students, faculty, and residents.

Kogi State’s Chief Servant, His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, has taken swift action in response to the tragedy. The governor has directed the State Ministry of Works to initiate discussions with the Federal Ministry of Works to enforce speed limits on roads passing through the Federal University of Lokoja.

In addition to addressing speed limits, the state government is taking further steps to regulate the movement of heavy trucks during peak hours. Governor Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser and the Commissioner for Transportation to develop a plan to restrict the movement of large trucks during the daytime, when roads are more congested with students and other individuals.

The Kogi State Government has also called for all road users to exercise greater caution when traveling, particularly in high-risk areas.

The government urged individuals to remain vigilant and respectful of traffic laws to prevent such heart-wrenching incidents. Furthermore, the government assured the public that it is committed to collaborating with the Federal University of Lokoja to improve the safety of both students and other road users in the region.

The Governor further expressed its heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims, acknowledging the profound loss in the State. XD
