A peace deal aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran will be signed on Friday in Switzerland.
In a statement by Switzerland Foreign Ministry, the signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 at the mountainside Burgenstock resort in Switzerland.
The ministry said the location was proposed by the Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as by the US and Iran.
It added that Switzerland is acting as a facilitator, creating the practical and diplomatic conditions necessary for the meeting to take place on its territory.
The United States and Iran announced on Sunday that they had agreed to a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict, which began February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran and later engulfed the Middle East.
After weeks of negotiations and rising tensions that could have led to more conflict, the two countries reached an agreement.
According to a Senior US official, the framework agreement has already been signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Islamic Republic’s top negotiator.
The text of the agreement has not been made public, leaving room for doubt over what was specifically agreed during the negotiations to end the conflict.
The two sides had disagreed bitterly on terms around Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions and the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Vance told CNN it was about a page and a half, describing it as a general document.
