The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspects and rescued a teenage girl who was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Patrick Ebojele, in a statement highlighting ongoing efforts by security agencies and the Edo State Government to combat violent crimes, especially those targeting women and children.
According to the statement, the case came to light on June 19, 2026, when Odion Enokhimion reported the disappearance of his sister at the NSCDC Ewohimi Division. The girl was said to have been taken by unknown persons a day earlier.
Acting on the report, NSCDC operatives launched an investigation that resulted in the arrest of two suspects, identified as Orhiabor ThankGod, 20, and Saturday Freedom, 16, both residents of Ewohimi. The victim was successfully rescued and placed under protective care.
Ebojele stated that investigations revealed the suspects allegedly contacted the victim’s family after the abduction and demanded a ransom. The amount was reportedly reduced from an initial N800,000 demand to N300,000 during negotiations.
He added that investigators traced and recovered conversations between the suspects and the victim’s relatives from a mobile phone belonging to one of the suspects. An account allegedly linked to the suspects was also uncovered during the probe.
A medical examination conducted at the Edo State Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Senator Daisy Ehanire Danjuma Vivian Centre in Benin City, confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted. She has since received medical treatment and counselling.
The NSCDC said the suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the completion of investigations.
