Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has strengthened its campaign against cultism and other criminal activities with the donation of two operational vehicles to security agencies to enhance surveillance and law enforcement on campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, announced the development on Monday during an Expanded Security Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the University Council Chamber.
According to him, one of the branded vehicles has been assigned to the Joint Security and Anti-Cultism Squad, while the second will support the university’s Security Patrol Team in conducting routine patrols within the campus and surrounding communities.
Prof. Usman said the initiative underscores the institution’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and residents of the host community, stressing that the university remains determined to eliminate cultism and all forms of criminality.
As part of measures to strengthen discipline, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University Management Committee, at its 403rd meeting, approved the reconstitution of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee and the Examination Misconduct Committee to promote accountability and uphold academic standards.
He also announced the establishment of a Committee on Behavioural Change and Cult Renunciation, tasked with identifying, counselling, and rehabilitating students involved in anti-social activities. He warned that individuals who refuse to abandon cult-related activities would face legal consequences.
Addressing recent reports circulating on social media, Prof. Usman dismissed a viral video alleging cult activities at PAAU, describing it as false and misleading. He maintained that the incident neither occurred within the university nor anywhere in Kogi State and accused those behind the video of attempting to damage the institution’s reputation.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his continued support of the university. He also acknowledged the contributions of former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello for his guidance and mentorship.
Speaking at the meeting, the Ogohi Onu-Anyigba, HRH Alhaji Shaibu Okolo, and the Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Hon. John Urah Ikani, commended the university’s proactive efforts to improve campus security and pledged their continued support toward sustaining peace and safety within the institution.
