England’s Henderson to Undergo Wrist Surgery, Set to Miss Rest of World Cup

Jordan Henderson’s 2026 World Cup has come to an abrupt end after the England midfielder suffered a serious wrist injury during post-match celebrations following the Three Lions’ dramatic 3-2 win over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.

The confirmation came after some scans were run on the midfielder revealed he needs surgery on a freak wrist injury sustained during England’s celebration.

The incident happened while England were singing Oasis’ “Wonderwall” with traveling supporters, Henderson attempted to hop over the advertising boards behind the goal, but clipped his foot on the way down and fell, trying to brace himself with his wrist.

England secured the historic win thanks to two goals from Jude Bellingham and a penalty from Harry Kane, playing much of the second half a man down after Jarell Quansah was sent off following a VAR review.

Henderson himself did not feature in the match. He had received a yellow card in stoppage time after arguing with the referee and interfering with an England throw-in from the sideline before the injury occurred in the celebrations that followed.

Manager, Tuchel confirmed the severity of the injury afterward, saying it “doesn’t fit with the night” given the significance of the victory. Henderson was taken to hospital and it’s understood he now needs surgery, with Tuchel adding he was unsure of the exact procedure required.

Henderson, 36, had made just one appearance at this tournament, playing seven minutes in England’s group-stage win over Panama; and had earlier become the first England men’s player to feature at four separate World Cups. England now turn their attention to a quarter-final meeting with Norway.
