Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed an urgent operation to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for an explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State. The incident, which occurred early Thursday morning, resulted in the deaths of two officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the directive in a statement released on Friday. The IGP ordered Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 15, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to deploy all available resources and collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the culprits are swiftly brought to justice.

The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, occurred at approximately 12:10 am on January 9, 2025. According to Borno Police Command spokesman Kenneth Daso, officers on duty valiantly repelled the attackers during an intense gun battle. However, hand grenades thrown by the terrorists landed on a shelter tent, fatally wounding the two officers.

The IGP expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, pledging that the sacrifice of the fallen officers would not be in vain. He also assured that all benefits and entitlements for the deceased would be promptly disbursed to their families.
