ARCON Raises Alarm Over Unauthorised Political Adverts

The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has cautioned politicians, political parties, and advertising agencies to ensure that all political advertisements and marketing communications comply with the country’s advertising regulations and other relevant laws. In a statement issued yesterday by the Director-General of ARCON, Olalekan Fadolapo, the council expressed concern over the growing trend of politicians, political parties, and support groups publishing advertisements without obtaining the necessary approvals. According to ARCON, some of the adverts violate established religious and ethnic guidelines, as well as provisions of the Nigerian Code of Advertising Practice.
