Arsenal Held at Fulham as Late Goal is Disallowed

Arsenal missed the opportunity to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool after a frustrating 1-1 draw at Fulham. Despite late drama, including a disallowed goal from Bukayo Saka, the Gunners were unable to take all three points. The draw leaves them six points behind Liverpool, who had their Merseyside derby postponed, with Arsenal having played one more game than their rivals.

Fulham took the lead in the 11th minute through Raul Jimenez, who capitalized on a precise ball from Kenny Tete. Despite being under pressure early on, the Cottagers defended well and kept Arsenal at bay for most of the first half. Jimenez’s goal was their only shot on target, but it was enough to give Fulham a slender advantage as Arsenal struggled to create chances from open play.

The Gunners responded quickly after the break, leveling the score just six minutes into the second half. A well-executed corner kick routine saw Kai Havertz flick the ball on for William Saliba to score, ensuring that Arsenal were back on level terms. Despite dominating possession and creating several half-chances, Arsenal couldn’t break Fulham’s defensive resolve, with the visitors struggling to find a winner.

Set-piece routines, which have been a key strength for Arsenal this season, played a pivotal role in their equalizer. With set-piece coach Nicolas Jover’s influence, the team has found great success from dead-ball situations, and it was Saliba’s second goal from a corner in as many games that ensured they earned a point. However, Arsenal could only manage four shots on target throughout the match, highlighting their inability to break Fulham down in open play.

The draw was a missed opportunity for Mikel Arteta’s side to reduce the gap to Liverpool to just four points. While Fulham will be pleased with their performance after a demanding week of matches, Arsenal’s inability to convert dominance into a win will be a source of frustration as they look to keep pace with the league leaders.
