NPTF Breaks Ground on Modern Police Station in Kogi State

The Nigerian Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has commenced the construction of a modern divisional police station in Ekinrin-Adde, a community in Ijumu Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State. The groundbreaking ceremony, which took place on Saturday, was led by Mohammed Seidu, the Executive Secretary of the NPTF. This new facility is expected to significantly enhance the operational capacity of the police, improving security in the region.

During the ceremony, Seidu highlighted the strategic position of Kogi State at the heart of Nigeria, with Ijumu LGA bordering four other states. He emphasized that the location makes it a crucial site for the new police station, which is intended to improve the police force’s effectiveness while contributing to the safety of the local population. Seidu urged the contractor to ensure the project is completed within three to four months and meets the required standards.

The Executive Secretary also praised the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his ongoing support for the police force, particularly in improving the welfare and working conditions of officers. This initiative has played a significant role in boosting the performance and morale of the police across the country. Seidu also reiterated the NPTF’s commitment to implementing similar projects in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, reinforcing the Trust Fund’s ongoing support for national security.

Kogi State’s Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, welcomed the project, noting that it would bring law enforcement closer to the local population. He emphasized that the new station would improve police presence in remote communities, fostering a more conducive environment for officers to carry out their duties efficiently. Onuoha reaffirmed the state’s dedication to ensuring a safer and more secure environment for residents.

Local community leaders also expressed their support for the project. Haruna Ibrahim, the Chairman of Ijumu LGA, and Anthony Bamigbaiye, the Olu-Ade of Ekinrin-Adde, both stressed the importance of the new station. With a population exceeding 25,000, the community currently has only one police officer, making the new station a critical development for both security and economic growth.
