The Kogi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry says it is committed to driving economic growth and development under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Mohammed Muktar Shaibu made this known in an interview with LugardTV ahead of the first anniversary of administration in office.
He said the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry is spearheading transformative efforts to position the state as a commercial and industrial hub by fostering market stability, enhancing industrial relationships, and initiating landmark projects, among other major developments in the last one year of the administration.
The Commissioner said among the ministry’s notable undertakings are the Lokoja Ultramodern Market and the establishment of the Commodity Exchange and Export Promotion Agency, which aim to bolster economic growth and improve trade activities across the state. These initiatives, the Commissioner noted, are part of a broader strategy to shift Kogi’s economy from a civil-service-dependent model to a thriving commercial and industrial powerhouse.
“With the unwavering support of Governor Ododo, the ministry has also strengthened collaborations with market stakeholders to stabilize prices and address inflation. Efforts to harmonize relationships between industries and their host communities have not only boosted economic activities but also contributed to improved security and peace within the state”, he further noted.
He emphasized the Governor’s commitment to fostering an environment where businesses and industries can thrive. According to him, “Governor Ododo’s dedication and openness have been instrumental in advancing these initiatives, and by the end of his tenure, Kogi will be recognized as a key player in Nigeria’s economic landscape.”
Looking ahead, he stated that the ministry has requested the recruitment of additional personnel to enhance its capacity to deliver on its goals. The Commissioner also expressed confidence in Kogi’s youth, urging the young people and all citizens of the state to support the government’s vision of transforming the state into a vibrant commercial and industrial centre in Nigeria.
