The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has issued a stern warning to civil servants against engaging in corrupt practices, including the unauthorized release of classified government documents, bribery, and fraud.
The commission emphasized that any public servant found guilty of leaking sensitive information could face dismissal from service, as such acts threaten national security and governance.

Speaking at a sensitization forum organized by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with the ICPC, the Director of System Study and Review, Olusegun Adigun, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fighting corruption.
He stressed that while Nigeria has not yet eradicated corruption, significant progress has been made through the collective efforts of anti-graft bodies. Adigun urged civil servants to uphold integrity and avoid activities that could compromise their positions.
Addressing the dangers of corruption in public offices, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Musa Ibrahim, emphasized that corruption remains a major obstacle to national development.
Represented by Dr. Vivian Nwosu, the Director of Special Duties, Ibrahim described corruption as a “national cancer” that must be tackled through transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in the workplace.
He further explained that civil servants play a crucial role in maintaining government credibility and service delivery. According to him, integrity in the workplace entails being trustworthy with classified information, practicing open communication, and demonstrating strong work ethics in official duties.
He urged government employees to see themselves as custodians of national resources and to resist any temptation that could lead to the abuse of power.
The ICPC also called for institutional reforms that promote a culture of integrity and accountability in public service. Adigun noted that the fight against corruption requires a collective effort, urging ministries, agencies, and departments to work together to ensure compliance with anti-corruption policies.
