EFCC Achieves Record-Breaking 4,111 Convictions and N365.4bn Recovery in 2024

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing 4,111 convictions and recovering over N365.4 billion in 2024 alone.

According to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the commission’s success can be attributed to the dedication, sacrifice, and discipline of its staff. Olukoyede emphasized the need to uphold professionalism and integrity in the fight against corruption, ensuring that the EFCC’s workforce remains a critical mass of honest, highly motivated, and effective team members.

The EFCC’s 2024 statistical report reveals a significant increase in convictions and recoveries, with the Lagos Zone recording the highest number of convictions at 685, followed by Enugu with 516.

Olukoyede has promised to surpass the 2024 records in 2025, emphasizing the need for increased dedication and commitment to the integrity of processes within the agency. The EFCC chairman also assured that the commission would deliver a brand-new EFCC in Nigeria within the next six months.

Professor Tonnie Iredia, a resource person at the EFCC’s retreat, emphasized the importance of personnel in information management and public perception of the commission. Iredia commended Olukoyede’s leadership, calling for greater public involvement in the anti-graft fight.

Femi Falana, SAN, examined the evolution of the EFCC, affirming that the commission has come to stay. Falana commended Olukoyede and the entire staff of the commission for their resilience and progressive approach to combating corruption.

The EFCC’s efforts have yielded significant results, with the commission recovering substantial sums of money, including N364.6 billion, $214.51 million, and €54,319. The commission has also secured the forfeiture of over 750 duplexes and apartments to the Federal Government.
