Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s swift action has restored stable electricity to Kogi’s vaccine cold store, as Ododo’s timely intervention secures Kogi’s vaccine cold chain and prevents the loss of critical immunization supplies.
The vaccine cold store, which is critical for storing essential vaccines, had been facing challenges due to a damaged transformer that disrupted power supply. As a result, the facility had to rely on diesel generators, which posed a significant risk to the storage of vaccines.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, revealed that the facility was on the verge of returning vaccines to the nation’s capital due to its inability to maintain optimal storage conditions. However, Governor Ododo’s timely intervention has ensured that the vaccines are now safely stored.
During his recent visit to the facility, Governor Ododo ordered a permanent power solution to secure the vaccines. In less than three weeks, a 33kVA power line, a new transformer, and a 60kVA solar inverter system were installed, creating a hybrid power supply that guarantees uninterrupted electricity.
This landmark achievement positions Kogi State as a model for other states in vaccine storage infrastructure. In fact, several states are now working towards adopting this sustainable power system for their cold chain stores.
