Kogi Lawmaker Pushes for Restoration of Water Supply in Kabba

The member representing Kabba/Bunu State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Seyi Bello, has called for immediate government intervention to end water scarcity in Kabba.

Presenting a motion during plenary, Hon. Bello urged the Kogi State Government to rehabilitate the Kabba Township Water Works, which has been dormant since 2009, and to complete the long-abandoned Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Kabba Water Project.

He noted that the Kabba Water Works once served as a vital lifeline for the community, providing clean and safe water, while the ABU project was designed to supplement the supply, but neither has functioned in recent years, forcing residents to rely on unsafe and unreliable water sources.

Hon. Bello stressed that the ongoing water scarcity poses serious public health risks and undermines the quality of life in the area. “This is not just about infrastructure; it’s about the health, dignity, and well-being of our people,” he said.

“For over a decade, Kabba residents have endured needless hardship due to the collapse of these essential water facilities. Now is the time for action.”

The motion received strong support from fellow lawmakers and community advocates, who commended the initiative as timely and people-focused. Many described access to clean water as a basic right that must not be denied to any citizen.

In his remarks, Bello reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of his constituents, stating that access to potable water is a fundamental pillar of public health and sustainable development. He said he would continue to push for policies that directly impact the lives of everyday people.
