Ododo Empowers LGs, Miners, Farmers Across Kogi

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is spearheading transformative change across Kogi State, with a strong emphasis on local empowerment. As Ododo empowers LGs, his administration is also opening new frontiers in mining and agriculture to boost grassroots development and ensure inclusive economic growth.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, during his appearance on Sunday Politics, a leading current affairs programme on Trust TV. Isah highlighted that Ododo empowers LGs by restoring their autonomy, enabling local councils to function independently and effectively.

“Kogi’s local governments are now functional and independent. Chairmen are making tangible contributions without interference from the State Government,” Isah stated.

As part of a broader economic vision, the state has secured 15 mining licenses to promote local involvement in the sector. With over 600 legally recognized mining sites in Kogi, Isah noted that most of these operations had long been dominated by external interests, with minimal benefit to local communities.

“We are changing that narrative by empowering 25,000 young people to actively engage in mining,” he explained. “This is part of a people-first approach that places communities at the heart of resource development.”

Ododo’s administration, while maintaining its focus on decentralization, is also prioritizing security. By working closely with neighboring states, the government is improving intelligence sharing and surveillance to combat crime and protect citizens.

Agriculture remains another core pillar of the administration’s development strategy. With Ododo empowering LGs to support rural farming initiatives, the state is allocating 50,000 hectares of land for cultivation in the new farming season, an ambitious move to strengthen food security and drive agricultural productivity.

The healthcare sector is not left out. Hundreds of Primary Health Care Centres across the state are being remodeled to better serve the people. In addition, the government is expanding health insurance coverage to include civil servants, pensioners, and students in state-owned tertiary institutions.

Through it all, the administration is keeping its focus firmly on results. Hon. Isah stressed that Ododo empowers LGs not as a political gesture, but as a key driver of sustainable governance.

“This government is about action, not promises,” he emphasized. “We are building a system that puts people first and delivers long-term impact.”
