Tinubu Proposes N1.78 Trillion FCT Budget for 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a proposed budget of N1.78 trillion for the Federal Capital Territory, focusing on ongoing projects and social welfare for 2025 fiscal year.

The proposal, read on the floor of the House of Representatives by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, outlines the administration’s plan to boost capital development and social investment in the nation’s capital.

According to the President, the submission is in accordance with Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the National Assembly with legislative responsibilities over the FCT. Tinubu emphasized that the budget is geared toward addressing pressing socio-economic needs, including job creation, healthcare, agriculture, and social welfare interventions.

A major highlight of the proposed budget is the commitment to infrastructure development. President Tinubu disclosed that 85 percent of the capital expenditure component will be devoted to completing ongoing projects across the FCT, a move aimed at avoiding the pitfalls of abandoned projects and ensuring continuity in governance.

The remaining 15 percent of the capital budget, he noted, will be used to initiate new projects that align with the administration’s vision for a functional and inclusive capital territory. This approach underscores a shift towards consolidating gains from existing infrastructure while cautiously embarking on new developments.

The President appealed to lawmakers to give the proposal urgent attention and ensure its timely passage. He said the swift approval of the budget would enable the FCT administration to implement its development agenda without delays, especially as the government seeks to strengthen service delivery and improve living conditions in Abuja.
