Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is preparing for one of the most heartbreaking moments of his life as he announces the burial arrangements for his late parents, Chief Nwabali Godspower Onyekamu and Mrs. Grace Nwabali.
The footballer, currently one of Nigeria’s most celebrated goalkeepers, shared the news via social media, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of both parents within a short period.
Describing the pain as “unimaginable,” Nwabali took to Instagram to reveal how surreal it feels to be planning a funeral for the two people who shaped his life. “It’s a different kind of pain I never wish for my enemy,” he wrote, highlighting the depth of his emotional turmoil as he prepares to lay them to rest.

According to the family, a three-day funeral schedule will commence on Thursday, June 5, 2025, with a Service of Songs at 5 p.m. at the late Chief’s residence on Osafu Lane, Okwuzi Egbema, in Rivers State. The event is expected to draw members of the local community, friends, and colleagues in sports.
On Friday, June 6, the remains of Mrs. Grace Nwabali will be moved from Gbegbe Hospital Mortuary in Omoku to her father’s compound before arriving at her husband’s residence. She will lie in state from 11 a.m., with final respects paid by family and friends.
The funeral of Chief Godspower Nwabali will take place the following day, Saturday, June 7. His body will be transported to his maternal home at 9 a.m., and then formally received by the Okwuzi Council of Chiefs.

A lying-in-state and internment will follow at his residence at 11 a.m. and 12 noon respectively, with a reception to follow at CPS Okwuzi Egbema.
The family expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone offering support during this difficult time and extended an open invitation to those wishing to celebrate the lives and legacy of the departed couple. Chief Nwabali was 72 years old, while Mrs. Grace Nwabali passed away at the age of 63.
