The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, effectively bringing an end to all legal disputes arising from the 2024 governorship election.
Governor Okpebholo described the ruling as a “landmark decision” that not only validates the will of the people but also paves the way for renewed focus on governance and development in the state.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the Governor expressed deep appreciation to the judiciary for upholding justice and to the people of Edo for their unwavering support throughout the legal process.
“This definitive verdict is not merely a legal triumph, it is a solemn reaffirmation of the sacred mandate freely given by the people of Edo State,”

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the judgment should be seen not as a personal victory, but as a collective win for all Edo citizens, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.
Reaffirming his commitment to good governance, the Governor outlined his administration’s focus areas, including security, infrastructure development, education, agriculture, healthcare, youth empowerment, and job creation.
In a spirit of reconciliation, the Governor extended a hand of friendship to his political opponents, calling for collaboration across party lines.
“The elections are over; the real work of governance and healing must begin,” he said. “Constructive criticism and diverse perspectives will always be welcomed, but they must be rooted in a genuine desire to see Edo thrive.”
He concluded with a message of hope and forward-looking leadership.
