Zabarnyi Joins PSG in £57m Transfer as Bournemouth Reshape Defence

Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Ukrainian international Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth in a £57 million deal, bolstering the European champions’ defensive ranks. The 22-year-old has agreed a five-year contract at the Parc des Princes, with the fee comprising an initial £54.5 million and £2.6 million in add-ons.

Zabarnyi has been a standout performer since joining Bournemouth from Dynamo Kyiv for £24 million in January 2023. Over two and a half seasons, he made 86 appearances, earned the club’s 2023-24 Supporters’ Player of the Season award, and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs.

His departure marks Bournemouth’s third major defensive exit of the summer, following Dean Huijsen’s £50 million move to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez’s £40 million transfer to Liverpool. The Cherries are now in the midst of a significant squad rebuild under manager Andoni Iraola.

To fill the gap, Bournemouth have agreed a deal worth up to £34 million for Lille defender Bafode Diakite and secured French left-back Adrien Truffert for £14.4 million. The south coast club is also actively pursuing another central defender before the transfer window closes.

Their summer recruitment drive has extended beyond defence, with the arrivals of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic and 18-year-old forward Eli Junior Kroupi. Iraola is also targeting a new striker to provide cover for the injured Enes Unal, as Bournemouth look to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League.
