Kogi Partners Cal-Maji Foundation to Drive Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Solutions

Kogi State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Cal-Maji Foundation aimed at strengthening food security, improving water management, and promoting environmental sustainability across the state. The collaboration seeks to drive innovation in agriculture while tackling the challenges posed by climate change and declining soil fertility.

The agreement was reached during a joint meeting held on Tuesday in Lokoja, which brought together the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, and Water Resources alongside their supervising House Committees. The stakeholders discussed practical solutions to boost food production, create jobs, and enhance sustainable practices for long-term development.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Timothy Ojone, noted that the partnership reflects the government’s renewed commitment to transforming the agricultural sector. He emphasized that the initiative would introduce modern practices aimed at combating soil degradation, water scarcity, and other pressing environmental challenges affecting farmers in the state.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Jibril Onoruoiza Abu, also lauded the development, describing it as a welcome step towards sustainable growth. He stressed that the Assembly remains open to innovative solutions that can improve food security, protect natural resources, and create economic opportunities for residents of Kogi State.

Project Director of the Cal-Maji Foundation, Faith Ayegba, explained that the organization would focus on promoting organic farming, regenerative agriculture, and agroecology. According to her, these approaches would help restore degraded farmlands, improve crop yields, and empower local farmers with knowledge and tools to adapt to climate realities.

The session ended on a note of optimism as lawmakers and commissioners commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritizing sustainability and food security.
