The National Assembly has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s plan to resume legislative duties.
In a letter signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate said her six-month suspension remains valid until the Court of Appeal rules on the case she filed against the chamber.
The letter, dated September 4, acknowledged her notice of resumption on the same day, which she claimed marked the end of her suspension.
But the Senate clarified that her suspension took effect on March 6, 2025, and stressed that the matter is still before the court.
The letter stated that the Senate would only review her suspension after the appellate court delivers its verdict.
Natasha was suspended in March for alleged insubordination after rejecting a change of her designated seat during plenary. The suspension also stripped her of aides, office privileges, and salaries.
She, however, insists the sanction was politically motivated, linked to her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment an allegation the Senate dismissed.
Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, told journalists that Natasha, currently on vacation in London, intends to resume when the Senate reconvenes on September 23.
