The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, has sought stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to safeguard the integrity of the nation’s voter register.
Hon. Eri made the call during a courtesy visit to the Kogi State Command of the NIS, where he held a strategic meeting with the Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. Emmanuel Jenewari Tariah, and other senior officers.
The meeting, which focused on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, underscored the urgent need to ensure that only eligible Nigerian citizens are enrolled. A major concern raised was the prevention of foreigners and other ineligible persons from participating in the registration process.
As part of the resolutions reached, Immigration officers will now be stationed at designated registration centres to provide technical support in detecting and preventing non-Nigerians from registering.
Hon. Eri noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to protecting the sanctity of Nigeria’s voter register, strengthening democratic values, and boosting public confidence in the electoral process.
He also commended the Immigration Service for its readiness to collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders in ensuring that the CVR exercise remains transparent, credible, and compliant with the laws of the land.
