Liverpool stretched their winning streak to five games after edging Everton 2-1 in a pulsating Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday. The victory not only strengthened their grip at the top of the Premier League but also prolonged Everton boss David Moyes’ 21-match winless curse at Liverpool’s ground.

Arne Slot’s men wasted no time setting the tone, as Ryan Gravenberch timed his run perfectly to bury Mohamed Salah’s delivery after just ten minutes.

The Dutchman later turned creator, feeding Hugo Ekitike, who made no mistake with a composed finish past Jordan Pickford to put the Reds in firm control before the half-hour mark.

Everton, however, showed resilience after the break. Idrissa Gueye unleashed a spectacular strike from the edge of the box following good link-up play from Jack Grealish, raising hopes of a comeback. Yet despite piling forward in the final stages, the Toffees lacked sharpness in the decisive moments, allowing Liverpool to maintain their perfect record.

In Manchester, Ruben Amorim’s United edged Chelsea 2-1 in a rain-soaked clash that delivered controversy and drama from the outset. Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez saw red just five minutes in after fouling Bryan Mbeumo, forcing Enzo Maresca into an early tactical reshuffle.

The setback deepened when playmaker Cole Palmer limped off injured, leaving the visitors short of creativity.

United capitalised swiftly as Bruno Fernandes struck in the 14th minute before Casemiro doubled the advantage with a header. But the Brazilian’s joy turned to despair when he was dismissed for a second booking in first-half stoppage time, handing Chelsea a lifeline for the remainder of the contest.

Trevoh Chalobah’s late effort gave Maresca’s men hope, but United’s backline stood firm under pressure to secure Amorim’s second league victory. The result relieves early tension at Old Trafford, while Chelsea’s turbulent season continues, raising questions over Maresca’s decision-making after another frustrating setback.
