The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed commitment to infrastructure development and climate action especially in communities prone to adverse impact of climate change.
This was the position of the inspection team led by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo during a recent inspection tour of key projects in Omala and Ankpa Local Government Areas.
Fanwo emphasized the strategic importance of the inspection tour to keep the public informed of ongoing development of critical infrastructure across the state.
The projects include the ongoing 10-kilometre Bagana–Abejukolo township road and several Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) erosion control sites.
Speaking in Abejukolo, Fanwo declared that is part of the 10-kilometre internal road network approved for each of the 21 local government areas by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
“Yesterday, we were in Mopa-Muro and Kabba-Bunu; today we are in Abejukolo. This government is committed to fairness and equity—ensuring that every part of the state benefits from democratic dividends,” he explained.
Fanwo reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to sustain ongoing infrastructure development, especially in underserved rural communities.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muhammed Yusuf, noted that there is significant progress on the Bagana–Abejukolo road project.
“All earthworks have been completed, and five kilometres of asphalt have already been laid on one side of the dual carriageway,” he said.
“Work on the remaining stretch will resume after the rainy season. By October, full construction activities will recommence,” he noted.
He commended Governor Ododo for prioritising rural infrastructure, stating that the project would enhance mobility and facilitate transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
In Ankpa, the inspection team visited ACReSAL erosion control sites where members of the community expressed deep appreciation to the Kogi state government for implementing landmark infrastructural projects in the area.
The Vice Chairman of Ankpa local government area, Hon. Halimat Imam, and the Supervisor for Works, Ibrahim Yahaya, acknowledged that the erosion control projects has prevented the community from severe erosion problems which has previously devastated homes and farmlands in the area.
“Thanks to Governor Ododo’s intervention, erosion that once destroyed lives and property is now under control,” they stated.
The team also visited the College of Education, Ankpa, where the Provost of the college, Dr. Femi Fashagba, highlighted improvements in basic infrastructure.
“When I assumed office, students had to fetch water from distant streams, and electricity was unreliable. Today, those problems have been largely resolved through the support of Governor Ododo.
Water supply, power, and security have significantly improved,” Dr. Fashagba noted.
Responding, Fanwo commended the Provost’s leadership and revealed that the state government had established a skill acquisition centre within the college.
“This administration is not just building roads and bridges— it is equipping young people with the tools to succeed. Governor Ododo is bridging divides and building unity through impactful projects,” he said.
The inspection team was also at the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ankpa, where the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Tenuche praised the government’s transformational support.
“Since 1999, our university has grown steadily, but under Governor Ododo’s leadership, we have witnessed unprecedented progress. Our MBBS programme was reactivated after 12 years, with full accreditation from both the National Universities Commission and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria,” she said.
Prof. Tenuche emphasized that all academic programmes had been accredited since Governor Ododo assumed office, describing the state’s support as “unwavering and intentional.”
The Chief Medical Director of the university’s teaching hospital, Dr. Anthony Nayo, added that ongoing projects include new classrooms for medical students, an electronic library, a multipurpose medical laboratory, and consultant offices—all of which will enhance medical and tertiary education in the state.
Fanwo assured that the state government would continue to support the university and other institutions to fully realize Governor Ododo’s vision for a united, progressive, and inclusive Kogi State.
