Remembrance Day: Kogi Government Honours Fallen Heroes, Backs Armed Forces

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed commitment to supporting members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, veterans, and families of fallen heroes, as the state joined the rest of the country to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo who gave the assurance on Thursday at a ceremony in Lokoja, described the occasion as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by men and women who paid the ultimate price in defence of Nigeria’s peace, unity, and territorial integrity.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo stated that Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is more than a ceremonial event, but a sacred moment to honour soldiers who left the comfort of their homes and embraced an uncertain future in service to the nation.

He assured families of fallen heroes of the state government’s continued support, stressing that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

The Governor commended the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his leadership and commitment to national security.

He also praised the Chief of Army Staff and other service chiefs for their strategic efforts in combating insecurity across the country.

Governor Ododo further applauded the Commander, officers and men of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Kogi State and the leadership of other security agencies in the state for their sustained operations against criminal elements, noting that their efforts have contributed to improved safety and the protection of lives and property in the state.
