The Federal Government has launched a six-month nationwide revenue recovery initiative aimed at boosting inflows into the Federation Account and enhancing fiscal discipline across all levels of government.
The comprehensive exercise, jointly coordinated by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), will engage over 50 consultants to trace and recover unremitted revenues from critical sectors of the economy.
Speaking during the inauguration of the consultants at the RMAFC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that all revenues due to the Federation are fully accounted for and remitted.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate, result-oriented initiative designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure that every recoverable naira is transparently remitted,” Shehu stated.
He explained that engaging consultants is a strategic measure to plug revenue leakages, promote transparency, and enhance the fiscal capacity of the federal, state, and local governments. According to him, the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes fiscal discipline and accountability.
“With the full support of Mr. President, the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, and the Executive Chairman of the FIRS, this project seeks to identify and recover all unremitted revenues across sectors,” he added.
Representing FIRS Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Coordinating Director, Shettima Tamadi, lauded RMAFC’s proactive effort to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal position. He assured of FIRS’s full cooperation to ensure the success of the initiative, noting that “Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth.”
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Joseph Nwaeze Okechukwu, urged the consultants to execute their assignments with diligence and integrity to ensure that all recoverable funds are remitted to the Federation Account within the stipulated period. He emphasized that the recovered funds would support the implementation of the government’s national development priorities.
Delivering an acceptance speech on behalf of the consultants, Mr. Temitayo Ojeleke described the engagement as a “national call to duty,” pledging that they would carry out their responsibilities with transparency and professionalism.
“We accept this assignment as partners in Nigeria’s economic renewal and are ready to deliver results that will strengthen the nation’s revenue base,” Ojeleke assured.
