Kogi Revenue Service Goes Digital, Abolishes Manual Tax Assessment

Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) says it has fully transitioned to digital operations in preparation for the implementation of the Nigerian Tax Act 2025.

Enehe made this known in an interactive session with the Lugard TV team at his office in Lokoja where he emphasized that digitalization has become a mandatory standard under the new national tax framework, set to take effect on January 1, 2026.

He said the move marks the end of manual tax assessment and a new era of technology-driven revenue administration in the state.

He explained that the system introduces fiscalization, a process that automatically tracks and records taxable transactions in real time, ensuring accuracy and transparency.

According to him, Kogi State has already taken the lead in adopting technology-based tax solutions, noting that manual assessments have been completely abolished in the state.

“Digitalization is now compulsory for effective tax administration. In Kogi State, we have stopped all forms of manual assessment. It is now an offence to raise manual tax assessments from any MDA,” he stated.

The KGIRS boss revealed that the Service has developed a secure digital monitoring facility equipped with artificial intelligence tools capable of real-time data tracking and analysis.

He said the innovation not only enhances efficiency but also minimizes revenue leakages and strengthens public confidence in the tax administration system.

Enehe also disclosed that beginning next year, the use of Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) will become mandatory for all citizens.

He warned that individuals without valid TINs might face challenges accessing financial services, including banking transactions, stressing the importance of early compliance.

He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his steadfast support towards the modernization of the revenue service, noting that the adoption of technology reflects the administration’s vision for accountability, innovation, and a stronger internally generated revenue base capable of sustaining development across Kogi State.
