In a bid to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world practice, students of Mass Communication from Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, on Tuesday paid an educational visit to Lugard TV.
The visit was designed to expose the students to the practical side of journalism and media production, offering them a firsthand experience of how modern broadcast stations operate.
Receiving the delegation, the Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah, welcomed the students warmly and lauded the initiative as a significant step toward nurturing future media professionals.
He encouraged them to approach the experience with curiosity and commitment, stressing that journalism thrives on creativity, skill, and consistency.
Hon. Isah reminded the students that practical exposure plays a critical role in shaping successful journalists, noting that many professionals, including himself, began their journey through similar visits that sparked their passion for the media industry.
He advised them to take the opportunity seriously, as it could help guide their career choices and personal growth.
The excursion, coordinated by Dr. Ojeme Erujakpor, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, was described as a bridge between classroom theories and field practice.
Dr. Erujakpor emphasized that such visits provide students with a clearer understanding of the structure and workflow within a newsroom, thereby enhancing their grasp of key media concepts taught in class.
She also commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his continuous support toward improving media education at Kogi State Polytechnic, particularly with the ongoing construction of a departmental media studio.
According to her, the initiative will produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also equipped with hands-on skills required by the industry.
Another lecturer, Mrs. Idris Asmau, highlighted the importance of versatility in the media profession, urging the students to develop multiple competencies in reporting, production, and camera operations.
She said the experience gained from interacting with professionals at Lugard TV would inspire the students to pursue excellence and adaptability in their future careers.
