Acting on the directive by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to all Commissioners and members of the state Executive Council to provide three boreholes in their local government areas, Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, has simultaneously commenced borehole projects in three communities in Kogi/Koton-Karfe Local Government Area to enhance access to clean water by residents.
The boreholes, located in Aseni, Girinya, and Okofi communities, mark a significant step in the first phase of the Commissioner’s water provision plan.
Engr. Gegu said the borehole projects will ensure equitable access to water by residents across the communities.
Gegu emphasized his commitment to supporting Governor Ododo’s vision, saying the project reflects a deliberate effort to address rural water challenges and improve public health outcomes.
He also highlighted plans for continuous monitoring and maintenance of the projects to guarantee sustainable water supply.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that the boreholes will reduce the burden of accessing safe drinking water, particularly for women and children.
The successful rollout of these three boreholes is expected to serve as a model for similar projects across other Local Government Areas in the State.
