The Federal Government has announced a new call for applications into the National Health Fellows (NHF) Programme, urging qualified young Nigerians to apply before the 30 November 2025 deadline.
In a statement made on Tuesday, the government said the initiative is designed to strengthen primary healthcare systems nationwide by training and deploying young professionals to all 774 local government areas.
Established to address persistent gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare delivery, the NHF Programme targets Nigerians aged 25 to 35 with academic backgrounds in health sciences, social sciences, and related fields. Successful applicants will receive structured training, mentorship, and field placements to support community-level health interventions.
Supported by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the programme is a key component of the government’s efforts to develop a stronger primary healthcare workforce and equip young Nigerians with the capacity to tackle public health challenges at the grassroots.
Speaking on the initiative, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, described the programme as “a groundbreaking effort aimed at developing a pipeline of healthcare leaders through strategic capacity building, professional development, and capstone field engagement.”
According to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the fellowship brings together candidates from diverse disciplines, including health, information technology, and social sciences, providing them with leadership development and exposure to best practices in the health sector.
The NHF Programme operates under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office). Interested applicants are advised to visit the official National Health Fellows website to complete their submissions.
