IGP Confirms Withdrawal of 11,566 Officers From VIP Escort Duties

The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 police officers previously assigned to Very Important Personalities (VIPs), in compliance with a directive issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Egbetokun made this known on Thursday during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja.

He noted that the presidential directive has empowered the Police Force to implement the recall decisively and without interference.

Egbetokun also noted that the order, coming directly from the President, leaves no room for resistance from any VIP affected by the withdrawal.

The IGP urged officers to remain professional, focused, and committed to securing the nation, stressing the need for sustained vigilance to prevent crime across the country.

He added that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to address ongoing security challenges and ensure the safety of all citizens.
