The Kogi State Government has announced plans to digitalize the proposed coded identification jackets for motorcycle operators in the state.
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo who disclosed when he received the leadership of the Kogi State Chapter of Motorcycle Operators Association of Nigeria at the Government House in Lokoja said the aim is to create a working database of
operators in view of emerging security concerns in the state.
He explained that the initiative would enhance the identification of riders and help security agencies decode criminal activities more efficiently.
Th Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening support systems for motorcycle operators across the state, urging riders to shun all forms of criminality and conduct their activities responsibly.
He emphasized the need for proper registration of motorcycle parks across the state, along with a verified database of all operators attached to each park, adding that the state government requires the participation of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the exercise.
Governor Ododo maintained that the exercise would be reviewed and improved upon to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
He also commended the operators for choosing a legitimate means of livelihood and contributing positively to the transportation system in the state.
Governor Ododo assured that his office remains open to the association for continuous engagement and support from the state government.
Speaking earlier, the State Chairman of the association, Comrade Ovoro Abdullahi Ovurevu, said the visit was aimed at seeking the Governor’s intervention in the provision of coded jackets and empowerment support to ease activities of their members.
He disclosed that preparations were underway for all Okada riders in the state to converge on December 9 to endorse Governor Ododo for a second term during the official unveiling of their coded jackets.
According to him, the Governor has proven to be a compassionate and people-focused leader who prioritizes the welfare of citizens.
Also speaking, Comrade Abdulkadir Haruna expressed appreciation for the Governor’s efforts in enhancing security across the state, noting that residents can now “sleep with both eyes closed,” while Okada riders operate more safely in the state.
Haruna described Okada riders as key stakeholders in grassroots transportation and lauded Governor Ododo for providing the kind of leadership that fosters development and progress in the State.
