The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially wrapped up the first phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and announced January 5, 2026, as the commencement date for the second phase.
In an update released on Wednesday by INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, the first phase combined online pre-registration and physical enrolment across all states of the federation.
Speaking on the progress so far, Eta-Messi revealed that 9,891,801 Nigerians have initiated their registration online since the process opened on August 18, while 2,572,054 registrations have been fully completed as of November 28. These include 1,503,832 online completions and 1,068,222 physical registrations conducted at INEC centres nationwide.
She confirmed that the first phase will formally close on December 10, in line with the commission’s timetable, with the second phase scheduled to resume on January 5, 2026.
In accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC will display the preliminary voter register from December 15 to 21 at local government offices where the CVR took place. The display will allow newly registered voters, those who transferred polling units, and individuals who updated their records to verify their details, request corrections, and raise objections regarding ineligible or deceased persons.
INEC also noted that CVR activities in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remain on hold due to ongoing electoral processes.
Eta-Messi noted that new resumption dates for the affected areas will be announced later.
