The Federal Government has approved the dismissal of 38 personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC), including an Assistant Commandant-General (ACG) of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The decision followed recommendations by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) under the Ministry of Interior, after the affected officers were found culpable of offences ranging from gross misconduct and insubordination to violations of extant laws.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, a total of 76 officers, both senior and junior personnel were subjected to disciplinary actions within the year.
Afolabi explained that 20 junior officers were dismissed from Service, while three personnel were demoted by one rank and seven others issued warning letters.
He disclosed that two Senior officers were demoted by two ranks, another officer was demoted by a rank, and five officers were issued warning letters.
Afolabi said the Commandant-General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, reaffirmed the administration’s zero tolerance for indiscipline, stressing that Corps is being repositioned through continuous training and re-training of personnels.
He stressed that the disciplinary actions were inline with the Public Service Rules and aimed at deterring others from engaging in acts capable of damaging the image of NSCDC.
Afolabi further disclosed that the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee handled about 30 cases involving offences such as job racketeering, extortion, illegal petroleum dealings, fraud, gun running, absenteeism without leave, and other serious infractions.
He added that the NSCDC leadership has charged officers and men to remain professional and focused on the Corps statutory responsibilities, particularly in light of the critical security duties entrusted to it’s by the federal Government.
