Manchester United have sacked manager Ruben Amorim, after 14 Months in charge of the red devils with Darren Fletcher set to take charge of the red devils on the interim.
The Portuguese has endured a tough start to the 2025/26 campaign after guiding United to their worst-ever Premier League finish last season. The club are now searching for their seventh permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Amorim’s reign in Manchester United came to an abrupt end after a cracked relationship between him and the united hierarchy, after they hinted there will be no incomings in the January transfer window.
Following the 1-1 draw with Leeds on Sunday, the Portuguese aimed another dig at senior United figures, stating he wanted to work as a manager “not the head coach” and was ready to leave when his contract expired in 18 months’ time.
According to football journalists across the globe, they also traced the Portuguese tactician’s early exit on his stance on not changing his tactical approach to suit the current players and the Manchester United long age playing approach.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,” United said.
“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.
The 40-year-old was appointed in November 2024 and won 25 of his 63 games in charge of the Red Devils.
Amorim’s 14-month stint is the shortest reign of a permanent manager at United since David Moyes was sacked just eight months into his tenure in 2014.
