The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has assured that the Nigerian Army will intensify operations to curb rising terrorist attacks in Niger State and other parts of the country.
Shaibu gave the assurance on Tuesday in Minna at the opening of the 2026 Doctrine and Training Conference held at the Doctrine and Training Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army.
He said the Army was fully committed to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s directive to stem the recent surge in attacks, stressing that more troops would be deployed nationwide to enhance security.
“We will massively do more deployments across the country towards achieving our goal of making Nigeria safer for all law-abiding citizens,” Shaibu said.
“We will also ensure that all the terrorists behind these dastardly attacks are apprehended and brought to book.”
The COAS noted that the Army was leveraging technology to strengthen its operational capabilities amid the evolving security challenges.
His remarks come against the backdrop of escalating terrorist and bandit attacks in Niger State and parts of northwestern Nigeria. Over the weekend, gunmen attacked a market in Kabe District, killing more than 40 people and abducting several others.
Shaibu explained that the annual conference provides an opportunity to review field operations, assess doctrine and training frameworks, and develop strategies aligned with Nigeria’s complex security environment. He said the review was aimed at consolidating gains recorded in 2025 and positioning the Army for a more effective 2026 training year.
Earlier, the Commander of TRADOC, Maj.-Gen. Peter Malla, said the conference marked the formal commencement of training activities for Nigerian Army institutions in 2026.
Malla described the forum as timely and relevant, noting that current security realities demand an agile, forward-looking, and doctrinally grounded army. He added that the conference underscores the importance of doctrine and training in strengthening operational effectiveness.
