Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Mourns as She Loses 21-Month-Old Twin Son

Celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, are mourning the loss of one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, who died on Wednesday.

The sad news was confirmed in an official statement released by Adichie’s Communications Team and signed by Omawumi Ogbe. According to the statement, the 21-month-old passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following a brief illness.

Describing the loss as devastating, the family appealed to the public for understanding, prayers and compassion as they navigate the painful period. They also requested privacy, noting the depth of grief surrounding the passing of their young son.

The statement further emphasized that no additional comments would be issued, while thanking members of the public and the media for respecting the family’s wish to mourn away from the spotlight during this difficult time.
