Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has approved the rehabilitation of two individuals from each of the 21 local government areas of the state who are battling drug abuse and related mental health conditions.
The 42 beneficiaries selected across the state will undergo a three-month comprehensive institutional rehabilitation programme at the Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA) Specialist Rehabilitation Centres in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, where they will receive treatment and other mental health support services.
According to a statement on VGADA’s verified Facebook page, Executive Director of the organisation, Dr Hope Omeiza, disclosed that the First Lady also approved post-rehabilitation economic empowerment support for all beneficiaries to promote sustainable recovery, reintegration and self-reliance, while reducing the risk of relapse.
Dr Omeiza noted that the intervention reflects Mrs Ododo’s strong commitment to mental healthcare, social reintegration and long-term empowerment of vulnerable persons across Kogi State.
He added that the institution-based programme is designed to complement ongoing community-based rehabilitation initiatives currently being implemented across the state under the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative.
