Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recorded a major operational success under Operation IGBO IDANU I, dealing a decisive blow to a notorious terrorist network linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu in Kogi State.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army said advancing through dense forest, difficult terrain, and multiple riverine obstacles, the troops displayed exceptional resilience, professionalism and tactical discipline.
It praised the troops for the successful operation, noting that despite severe movement constraints caused by fallen trees and marshy ground, the force pressed forward with determination, highlighting the Nigerian Army’s unflinching resolve to dismantle terrorist strongholds and restore lasting security in the area.
The operation, personally led by the Commander, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, involved troops dismounting and advancing on foot to achieve tactical surprise and operational dominance.
“This bold manoeuvre enabled the force to penetrate deep into the terrorist enclave, resulting in the complete overrun of the camp,” the statement read.
“Although the terrorists fled on sighting the advancing troops, a thorough exploitation of the objective led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandolier of 250 rounds each and one box of high-velocity grenades.”
These recoveries, according to the Nigerian Army, have significantly degraded the terrorists’ operational capability and logistics base.
It stated that following the successful clearance operation, the terrorist camp was systematically destroyed and set ablaze to deny the criminals any opportunity of reoccupation.
The Nigerian Army added that the troops have continued aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations within the general area to exploit the success, disrupt fleeing elements and prevent regrouping.
“This operation sends a clear and resounding message to terrorist elements that their hideouts will continually be identified and neutralised, reaffirming the firm commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding lives, protecting communities and ensuring lasting peace and security across the region,” the statement read.
In other news, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have killed no fewer than 16 ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.
In a statement on Tuesday, OPHK Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said the troops once again demonstrated exceptional resolve and operational superiority by swiftly repelling the ISWAP attack and launching a devastating follow-on counter-offensive.
This decisive action, Uba said, has significantly degraded terrorist capabilities, disrupted their logistics, and reaffirmed OPHK’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks across the North East region.
“On 5 February 2026, at approximately some minutes to midnight, ISWAP terrorists conducted a failed attack on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auno. Troops of Sector 1 thwarted the assault with disciplined firepower and tactical precision,” he said.
“Capitalising on this success, on 9 February 2026, troops, in synergy with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), launched a bold counter-offensive along the Komala axis in Konduga LGA.
“The troops engaged the retreating terrorists up to the Gidan Kaji axis, neutralising sixteen (16) terrorists, forcing scores to flee in disarray with severe injuries.”
Equally, troops recovered over 20 bicycles, a large cache of logistic items, weapons, and other supplies critical to terrorist operations.
In a further blow to terrorist logistics nodes, troops arrested suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers conveying a large quantity of drugs meant for terrorists around Bukarti axis on the same day.
Furthermore, in response to a distress call along Chibok-Damboa axis on 9 February 2026, troops rescued nine kidnapped victims successfully.
Uba said these actions underscore OPHK’s continued commitment to humanitarian efforts and the protection of the civilians.
