Liverpool rediscovered their scoring touch in emphatic fashion, netting five goals in a Premier League match for the first time since their 5-1 title-clinching victory over Tottenham Hotspur in April 2025.
Under similar bright conditions, they repeated the feat against West Ham United on Saturday. Despite a season filled with ups and downs, the Reds now head into March with renewed confidence.
Arne Slot’s side were not entirely dominant against a struggling West Ham team, but the statistics suggest clear progress. Liverpool currently sit fifth in the league, just three points shy of third place.
“I could sense the tension in the stadium,” Slot admitted after a game in which his side were efficient in front of goal, even if they lacked full control.
Liverpool have now secured four wins from their last five league matches—matching the total they managed in their previous 13 games (six draws, three losses). It’s a strong sign of improvement for a team determined to rescue their campaign.
Slot has already made it clear that failing to qualify for the Champions League would be unacceptable, and recent performances show a team pushing steadily toward that minimum target. Earlier in the season, that goal looked unlikely after inconsistent results, a reported fallout with Mohamed Salah, and an injury to record signing Alexander Isak.
Now, Liverpool appear to have rediscovered their winning edge—whether through late goals, resilient away performances, or improved effectiveness from set-pieces. Confidence is clearly returning at Anfield.
