The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed commitment to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and headers in the state.
This assurance was given during a statewide stakeholders’ engagement on farmer–herder conflict organized by the Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (Kogi L-PRES) in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock Development at the Government House in Lokoja.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, said the meeting was convened as part of proactive efforts to strengthen dialogue between farmers and herders across the state.
According to the Governor, the engagement was both timely and strategic, as it seeks to consolidate existing peace efforts between farmers and herders in the state.
He commended security agencies, traditional rulers, and citizens for their roles in promoting harmony throughout the state, stressing that his administration remains committed to strengthening mediation and dialogue platforms to prevent conflicts before they escalate.
Governor Ododo emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective responsibility, urging stakeholders to continue working together in the interest of sustainable peace and development.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Project Coordinator of Kogi L-PRES, Otaru Abdulkabir, described the meeting as a proactive step toward fostering dialogue, deepening mutual understanding, and advancing practical solutions to challenges affecting livestock production and the broader agricultural sector in the state.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo for creating a safe and enabling environment for both farmers and herders, assuring the administration of the project’s continued support to ensure sustainable development in the state.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, the Ohi of Adavi, HRH Alhaji Muhammed Bello underscored the symbiotic relationship between farmers and herders, noting that peaceful coexistence remains mutually beneficial and essential for economic growth.
Stakeholders at the event commended Governor Ododo for his efforts in promoting peace in the state.
