Michael Olise produced a brilliant display in the absence of Harry Kane as Bayern Munich overwhelmed Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

England captain Kane was only fit enough for a place on the bench after recently recovering from a calf injury.

However, Bayern did not miss their main striker as they surged to an emphatic victory.

Olise was the standout performer, contributing to the opening three goals as the Bundesliga champions raced into a commanding lead within the first 25 minutes.

The French winger’s sharp corner picked out an unmarked Serge Gnabry, who set up Josip Stanisic to score from close range in the 12th minute.

Ten minutes later, Olise doubled Bayern’s lead with a superb curling effort before sending Gnabry through to neatly lift the ball over Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.

Further goals from Nicolas Jackson and Jamal Musiala – along with Olise’s second of the night saw Bayern rack up six goals by the 67th minute, before Mario Pasalic grabbed a late consolation for the hosts in Bergamo.

The victory stretched Bayern’s unbeaten away run to nine matches and left them firmly in control ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena on 18 March.
