The sun blazed over Liverpool on Wednesday, and by nightfall, the team produced one of their standout performances of the season.
“It was almost the perfect game for us and certainly for our fans,” said Arne Slot after his side booked their first Champions League quarter-final spot since 2022 with a commanding display against Galatasaray.
For Liverpool, it was a full 90 minutes of confidence and intensity qualities they’ve been missing in recent weeks. They played with the authority of Premier League champions, feeding off the energy of Anfield against a Galatasaray side that never truly looked capable of pulling off a result.
The Reds registered 32 shots, 16 of them on target, and after the break, they appeared capable of scoring at will.
It was a stark contrast to the same team that struggled to find the net over 180 minutes against Galatasaray in Istanbul earlier this season, and that delivered a flat performance against Tottenham at the weekend.
Based on this display, Liverpool will believe that if they can hold their own in the first leg of their quarter-final against Paris St-Germain in Paris, they have every chance when Luis Enrique’s side come to Anfield a week later.
No matter how often you step into Anfield, there’s always something magical about European nights here.
