Tottenham Turn to De Zerbi in Late Push to Avoid Premier League Drop

Tottenham Hotspur have moved to shake up their season by appointing Roberto De Zerbi as head coach, as the North London club battles to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The decision comes at a critical point in the campaign, with Spurs sitting just above the relegation zone and only a handful of matches left to secure their top-flight status.

The club confirmed De Zerbi’s arrival on a long-term deal following the exit of interim manager Igor Tudor. Known for his attacking philosophy and previous stints in England and France, De Zerbi expressed confidence in the club’s long-term vision, while acknowledging that immediate results will be key to lifting Tottenham out of danger before the season concludes.

Tottenham’s struggles this season have raised concerns about the club’s direction, with inconsistent performances leaving them vulnerable to a potentially damaging relegation.

Sporting director Johan Lange described De Zerbi as the club’s top managerial target, highlighting his tactical creativity and experience as vital assets in the fight for survival.

However, the appointment has not been universally welcomed. Former England defender Rio Ferdinand questioned the club’s internal structure, suggesting that deeper issues within Tottenham’s hierarchy may undermine any managerial change.

Fan reaction has also been mixed, with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust voicing opposition to De Zerbi’s appointment over past remarks concerning Mason Greenwood. As debate continues off the pitch, attention now turns to results, with De Zerbi expected to take charge immediately and attempt to steer Spurs to safety in the decisive final stretch of the season.
